Horse Boarding

Windsor Stables is a full-service horse boarding barn in Southlands with accommodation for 32 horses. It is located just 15 minutes from downtown Vancouver and 10 minutes from the University of British Columbia (UBC) Point Grey campus. We provide quality individual horse care, including a daily turnout routine and 24-hour on-site staffing.

Windsor Stables offers stalls for lease or sale – each stall has an attached outdoor paddock, rubber mats, a heated automatic waterer, and electric fencing for horse safety. Stable amenities include two heated washrooms with showers, a comfy barn lounge, large private lockers, and coin-operated laundry facilities. The property also includes a 75′ x 135′ outdoor riding ring, lunge ring, and five turnout paddocks with loafing sheds for rainy weather.

All stalls at Windsor are in-and-out stalls, where the horses get to come and go as they please. Each stall is equipped with a heated automatic water dispenser. The size of the outdoor run varies across stalls, so it is best to come by and take a look at the different options in person.

Depending on availability, we have a variety of stalls for rent, and sometimes also for sale. Owning your own stall ensures that you will have an affordable home for your horse for years to come, whereas renting gives you the flexibility to move around and try different boarding styles. For inquiries regarding the availability of stalls for rent or sale, please contact the Manager.

Our property is part of a dynamic community of farms and stables that make the neighbourhood truly unique. We are located in close proximity to miles of recreational trails along the Fraser River, through Pacific Spirit Park, and even down to the beach at Spanish Banks. Just around the corner is the Southlands Riding Club (SRC), which boasts two indoor arenas, five outdoor riding rings, two lunge rings (one indoor and one covered), a cross-country course, polo field, half-mile hog fuel track, and a spacious lounge for visitors. The SRC offers a wide range of competitions, clinics, and community events for riders of all levels and disciplines throughout the year, and welcomes everyone from occasional riders who pay per ride to regular riders who wish to purchase unlimited membership. In recent years, the SRC has instituted a rescue and rehabilitation program that, with the dedicated volunteer efforts of trainers from Windsor Stables and the Southlands neighbourhood, has seen incredible success in helping abandoned horses find loving new homes.

Take a look at what one of our leasers had to say about her experience at Windsor Stables!

“The best thing about leasing and riding at Windsor is the excellent care the horses receive. I’ve been leasing and riding here for many years. When I first moved from Toronto to Vancouver eight years ago, my husband got me a surprise riding lesson. It was with a trainer at Windsor! After not riding for several years, it was the best surprise I’ve ever received. Shortly after, we found a horse I started to lease who was boarded at the stable. The gelding’s name was GQ, and he was my lovely lease for several years. For the past two years, I’ve been back at Windsor riding a wonderful mare called Peanut, and just signed a lease on a second horse. I am hoping both will be long-term mounts for years to come. I feel very lucky to be at one of the nicest boarding barns with a wonderful community and caring owners.

The riding ring and lunge ring are right on the premises and ready for use at all times, which makes Windsor extremely convenient, especially in the summer months. Your own trainer can get the approval to come teach you on-site as well!

During my many years at Windsor, I’ve noticed that all the horses are taken care of with expert knowledge of equine care from the barn manager and the staff. The staff is friendly, and many boarders and owners are happy to give suggestions and join you for trail rides or street walks. Walking to the [Southlands Riding] Club is an 8-10 min walk, and I always have friendly, smiling company to join me. After a ride at the Club, the heated locker rooms and wash stall back at Windsor are nice treats for me and the horses I ride, especially during Vancouver’s rainy months.

I highly recommend Windsor Stables in Southlands to any owner/rider, beginner or experienced; Windsor Stables is the premier boarding facility for any horse.”
