Southlands Area
Dunbar-Southlands is located on unceded and ancestral xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) territory, just 10 minutes by car from UBC and 15 minutes from downtown Vancouver. The neighbourhood is located next to Pacific Spirit Regional Park, which consists of miles of recreational trails, and məqʷe:m (the Camosun Bog), a 2000-year-old wetland revered by the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm people for its significance in tradition, medicine, and narrative.
The Southlands neighbourhood is now divided into plots of land occupied by multimillion-dollar mansions and barns. The Southlands Riding Club (SRC), founded in 1943, is a regional highlight; its 16-acre grounds include numerous indoor and outdoor riding rings, a beautiful half-mile track, and a spacious barn lounge. The SRC hosts a number of riding competitions and clinics each year, and with festivities like the annual Country Fair — a popular family-friendly event held each September — it is the perfect gathering place for equestrians and non-equestrians alike. The Club is open from 6 AM to 10 PM, 365 days a year.

LOCAL RIDING ORGANISATIONS
Southlands Riding Club: Neighbourhood riding facility with indoor and outdoor arenas for all disciplines, indoor and outdoor lunging rings, a half-mile track, cross-country course, and barn lounge. Hosts regular community events and regional horse shows.
Southlands Drill Team: A group of casual riders who practice mounted drill riding (think marching band or synchronised swimming — but with horses!). Run by part-time local trainer Claudia Zurmuhle and her students, drill team is a great way for horses and riders to challenge themselves with new riding techniques, build community for humans and horses, and have fun.
Southlands Trail Riders: A local group of riders who organise casual trail rides along the Fraser River and through Pacific Spirit Regional Park. A great resource for anyone new to the neighbourhood who would like to safely explore our fabulous network of trails.
