Dunbar-Southlands is located on unceded and ancestral xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) territory, just 10 minutes by car from UBC and 15 minutes from downtown Vancouver. The neighbourhood is located next to Pacific Spirit Regional Park, which consists of miles of recreational trails, and məqʷe:m (the Camosun Bog), a 2000-year-old wetland revered by the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm people for its significance in tradition, medicine, and narrative.
The Southlands' neighbourhood is now divided into plots of land occupied by multimillion-dollar mansions and barns. The Southlands Riding Club (SRC), founded in 1943, is a regional highlight; its 16-acre grounds include numerous indoor and outdoor riding rings, a beautiful half-mile track, and a spacious barn lounge. The SRC hosts a number of riding competitions and clinics each year, and with festivities like the annual Country Fair — a popular family-friendly event held each September — it is the perfect gathering place for equestrians and non-equestrians alike. The Club is open from 6 AM to 10 PM, 365 days a year.

Local Riding Organizations
Southlands Riding Club: Neighbourhood riding facility with indoor and outdoor arenas for all disciplines, indoor and outdoor lunging rings, a half-mile track, a cross-country course, and a barn lounge. Hosts regular community events and regional horse shows.
Southlands Drill Team: A group of casual riders who practice mounted drill riding (think marching band or synchronized swimming — but with horses!). Run by part-time local trainer Claudia Zurmuhle and her students, the drill team is a great way for horses and riders to challenge themselves with new riding techniques, build a community for humans and horses, and have fun.
Southlands Trail Riders: A local group of riders who organize casual trail rides along the Fraser River and through Pacific Spirit Regional Park. This is a great resource for anyone new to the neighbourhood who would like to safely explore our fabulous network of trails.
Pony Club, British Columbia Lower Mainland Region: The Canadian Pony Club is a member-based organization supporting youth aged 6-25 in learning about taking care of and working with horses and ponies. They have a number of regional branches across Canada, and Vancouver is serviced by the BC Lower Mainland branch.
